Chapter 2
Vancouver, Canada 1986
She hurried down the street, the brisk wintry air blowing her silken auburn locks this way and that. She mumbled and grumbled to herself about stupid alarm clocks and how they never worked when they were supposed too. She was going to be late for work now, which meant getting off later than usual. Walking home after dark always unnerved her so she tried to avoid it, however, today it seemed she wouldn’t be able too. She was so busy cursing herself and her never trusty alarm clock that she wasn’t watching where she was going. Next thing she knew she was sprawled out on the pavement with a distinctly masculine set of legs standing in front of her. Glancing up she saw a strong yet artistic hand reaching for her. Her soft cat green eyes followed the hand up the arm up to a shoulder, then on to a face that housed the most startling blue eyes and thousand mega watt smile she’d ever seen. For a brief moment she drowned in the soulfulness of that gentle blue gaze.
“Miss, you ok?” The young man chuckled softly, aware of her reaction to him. These days he was aware of the effect he seemed to have on women it always managed to surprise him a bit too. After all he was just a regular guy from Sayerville that got lucky nothing more or less, and even though the attention was head turning, sometimes it wore a little thin. He wished that one day some girl would like him for what went on inside his head, not just how he looked or sounded. Shaking his head he realized the girl was still on the pavement so he spoke again. “Miss, you ok?”
Pulling herself out of the daze she seemed to have suddenly been in the girl responded. “Ummm, yeah I think so.” She placed her slender hand in his and accepted his assistance in rising back into a standing position. For a long moment she forgot her hand was in his and studied him quietly, aware deep inside herself that he too was giving her a thorough perusal.
With a soft gasp she pulled her hand from his exclaiming. “I’m so sorry. I hope I didn’t run into you, I was so late for work and my mind was a million miles away. I wasn’t looking where I was going.” She glanced up as she spoke and in that instant, soft green eyes were met blue and words stopped. Indeed all of time stopped in that instant for the two young people on the street.
Blue eyes quietly studied her, intently looking her over from head to toe. The man behind the blue eyes felt his already tight jeans becoming tighter as he looked his fill. Gold flecked green eyes, pert pixie nose and full pouty lips were accentuated with wavy auburn hair that fell to a tiny waist. She was so petite, yet he could tell that she had a strength most women didn’t have. She was perfect, someone he could see holding on long cold Vancouver nights. To do that however, he had to get past the introductions.
God he was gorgeous she decided. On the day God had handed out looks he must have been standing in the front of the line. He was tall, but only a head or so taller than her. He was lean yet not skinny and although he had on a jacket she could see the barest hint of a muscled chest. With a soft flush staining her cheeks she jerked her head from its southward travels and back up to his face. The briefest glance at those oh so tight jeans had her heart racing.
With a chuckle the beautiful eyes opened his mouth and spoke. “Hi, I’m Jon, and I have to say, you have a killer way of meeting people.”
Noting his sense of humor she was able to shake off the wool that was gathering in her mind. With a soft chuckle she reached out to shake his hand. “Well hello Jon, I'm Jacqui and the pleasure is mine.
Jon knew he couldn’t let this vision escape he had to have a chance to get to know her better. “Listen Jacqui, I know we met in the strangest of ways, but I’d like to get to know you better. How about we go to dinner or something?”
Jacqui smiled, and that smile had Jon’s heart thundering in a crazy rhythm of joy and desire. “Sure, I’d love too, but if I don’t get to work right this second my boss is going to crucify me.”
Jon laughed. “Yeah babe, I can totally understand.” Naming a rather popular club downtown he continued talking. “If you can meet me after work it would be cool. We’ll go get a bite to eat and get to know each other more.”
Jacqui smiled and nodded her head. “I’ll see you there. It’s a date!” Turning away she dashed off, throwing a slight wave his way. Jon stood there watching her as she left and decided that she just might be his newest inspiration.
The hours seemed to crawl by at a snails pace, but then wouldn’t the hours just crawl when at the end of those hours stood a glorious man? On her break she had called her friend Marisa to bring her a change of clothing. No way was she going to go meet Jon in what she had worked in all night. Going back to work after her break she kept glancing at the clock as if looking and staring at it would move it faster, it didn’t work, but she figured the effort was worth it. However, as slowly as time went, Jacqui’s time at work finally came to an end. Rushing through her closing out chores she raced into the girl’s room and changed out of her uniform and into the clothing her friend Marisa had dropped off an hour or so before.
Deciding to splurge for once, she hailed a cab and was soon on her way to the club Jon had mentioned. As she walked up to the door she noticed the sign out front proclaiming that the band Bon Jovi was in the club that night. She had heard a couple of their songs on the radio and thought they were pretty good, for a hard rock band that is. She made her way to the door and was surprised to find that the door person seemed to be expecting her, waving her through without asking for the usual admission fee. As Jacqui made her way over to the bar she glanced over to the stage curious to see just what this Bon Jovi group looked like, and to her total amazement, there on stage front and center, in the tightest leather pants and vest she’d ever seen was Jon.
Present day
With a jerk Amelia’s eyes opened and looked at the still sleeping man on the couch, realizing for the first time exactly who was sleeping on her couch. This time however, she hadn’t fallen, he had, right back into her life again.
Her voice but a whisper, the name she hadn’t spoken in over 20 years escaped her like a prayer, “Jon.”

Puppy Jonny...all that sin and sweetness.
Another lifetime both in the flashbacks and the character's thoughts. Great work.
